me too! the cool thing about learning from one's mistakes instead of blaming others is that I've been able to learn from my crashes and generally avoid repeating them. Some I've had to repeat a couple times just to be sure, but the longer I've ridden the fewer crashes I've had.

Excellent history! I'm glad you've outgrown your early habit of slamming into vehicles doing 40mph.

wow, thanks for the stories! I've hit the footpegs on my motorcycle and all that happens is I get startled and stand the bike up, maybe run wide. I'll have to keep that in mind when I start playing in the twisties on my bicycle. Still too lazy to really attack the mountains...

After three bicycle crashes, I ride slower, and not near motorized vehicle traffic (although that wasn't the problem each of the three times).

First crash I was 19, cleats locked in, banking about a turn at 25mph - oops, too steep a bank, , what was that noise? . Came to sitting on my ass in the middle of the street, looked over to see bike upside down, wheels spinning. Got up and realized I had gouges out of my elbow and knee - thought, "I better end this ride and ride home". Picked up the bike and realized the front wheel was bent 30 degrees - no rollie. Popped wheel off, placed on curb and jumpy-jumpied it to straighten enough to roll home. Upon arriving home, I dismounted the bike a my legs literally collapsed. I slept for 6 hours.

Short story, banked too steep, pedal hit pavement, flipped bike and me (flipping me off), I went to asphalt, probably rolled and/or hit my head. Bike sped into curb, bending wheel. Little did I know I had 1) A concussion, 2) was in shock and on pure adreline for that post-crash interval, 3) I was LUCKY. Shoulda had a helmet.

Second crash (in a bank again), hit gravel, slide, bike went down at 25 mph on asphalt, ground the face off the Lorus watch my mom gifted me. Save my wrist, no head injury, but scuffed up. I was wearing a helmet.

Third crash, I was trying to jump a curb on my mountain bike, didn't clear. Had helmet, but when my chest, hands, and knees hit the pavement, the helmet didn't help, that time. The pain, bruising, and cracked ribs still show, and lasted me a good year of discomfort.

Lesson out of this I guess is, there but for a well-misplaced flip/hit, or tumble, there goes your head. Often when and where you least expect it.

Amazing that you've made it thru all those, please stay safe. Here's to rider safety!
